SOMERSET — Kristen Rose said she lived the first five years of her life in Somerset. Her family moved away from town and lived in Dartmouth. But Rose now has another strong connection to Somerset that will require her to spend a little more time in town.

Rose was named Miss Somerset at a pageant that was held on Saturday night at Somerset Middle School.

…Miss Massachusetts, Lauren Kuhn, who was the fourth runner-up in the Miss America competition, also attended the pageant at Somerset Middle School over the weekend. Somerset resident Alexandria Murphy won the the Overall People’s Choice Award voted by the audience. Murphy, who graduated from Somerset Berkley Regional High School in June, is a student at Worcester State University where she has a double major in public health and nursing with a minor in Spanish.

Murphy’s platform for the pageant was “Fighting The Invisible War” which she said is about the epidemic of sexual assault in the military. Murphy did baton twirling for the talent portion of the competition. This was her second time in such a pageant. She said she enjoys the pageants and will continue to enter them.

“I like expressing myself and I want to be a role model for young girls, and I want to pursue my platform because I want to be an officer in the Navy and help the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals,” Murphy said. “That’s Miss America’s national platform…”
